Small things

I guided a virtual session earlier this month. One of the invitations offered was to look at the small things. With participants dotted across the world, it was interesting to see that two came back to our sharing circle with noticings along the same lines.

There’s a well known saying mighty oaks from tiny acorns grow. This is the essence of what came up. How from something seemingly small comes something so much bigger. Whether it’s an oak tree, a flower, a fruit tree or grass. The blueprint is contained within that seed – needing support from the elements to reach its full potential.

Take this oak tree for example. For decades, perhaps centuries, this tree has been growing and evolving. It started as an acorn. Add in some water and sunlight … and hey presto … we have this magnificent tree. It’s like magic! Then consider that from that one tree, countless numbers of acorns will develop – they too could become oak trees. Who then in turn create more acorns … and so the cycle continues. Next time you see an acorn – just take a moment to consider what they could become.

As we hurry about in our daily lives, it’s not that often we stop and take the time to notice the small things that are all around us. It’s only when we slow down and really start to look that we start to notice things that have otherwise been hidden in plain sight.

Invitation: slow down and notice the small things where you are. I wonder what you’ll see?

If you feel moved to take this invitation – I invite you to share what you are noticing below.
